Description
Direct replacement vent liners for any Badger Ridge breech plug, the Savage 10 ML-II muzzle-loader, all Lehigh breech plugs, SSK breech plugs, and any other that uses the “Savage” type. These vent liners are interchangeable with the original Savage 10 ML-II vent liner; buy with confidence! They work in all breech plugs that follow the Savage ML2’s design (Like the Lehigh, SSK, and Badger Ridge plugs)! THESE VENT LINERS ARE MADE OUT OF 17-4 STAINLESS STEEL!A need to improve the muzzle-loader ignition is real, and a Savage compatible vent liner can be added to many different manufacture’s breech plugs. Using de Laval nozzle principles, the vent liner concentrates the primer energy boosting the performance in igniting the powder charge.Vent liner and Pin Gage are MADE IN USA!!!!
The vent liner is produced from 17-4 stainless through hardened to Rc38 – 48 and then gas carbonitited to achieve a surface hardness of Rc60. This high surface hardness reduces wear from flame erosion extending the useful life of the vent liner. Replacement is recommended when the flash hole erodes to 0.036 or if accuracy loss is recognized.
We advise a tiny dab of anti seize grease be used on the vent liner threads upon installing into the breech plug body. The vent liner fits all Lehigh and Savage MLII breech plugs using removable vent liners. The deep 7/64 inch hex allows for easy removal without stripping. (We sell 7/64 L Hex wrenches. You need a 7/64 hex wrench to install these.)
The exact number of shots one will get before they need to replace their breech plug’s vent liner will vary. Most folks put a new one in at the beginning of the season check their zero and are good until next season. They start out with an interior diameter around .030 and should be replaced when they open up to .036. Some folks shoot them until accuracy starts to suffer (which typically happens around .036). That is why we sell .036 ZZ pin gauges. If they pass through the vent liner its time to replace it.
We will ship these (and all our muzzleloader items) to Canada as well, but it costs extra.
Additional individual or small packs of vent liners can be added to any order shipping free. When only purchasing small packs or single vent liners, a shipping charge will be added at check out.
Note: pictures with ‘black flat head’ is to compare the stainless vent-liner (formerly produced by Lehigh) to the Savage OEM liner. We sell 17-4 Stainless vent-liners only. Our 17-4 vent liner is completely interchangeable with the Savage. The breech plug and hex L wrench are shown to display an installed vent liner and are not included with any vent liners, but are for sale separately.
Note: the original all black Savage vent liners are slightly shorter than our 17-4 Ventliners. If you don’t clean the threads that the vent liner screws into after removing one of the shorter vent liners, the new vent liner may not fully seat. Some folks get confused and think our vent liner isn’t compatible: it is compatible, you just need to clean those threads! Try soaking in penetrating oil, bore cleaner, or Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) then either use a small wire brush, pipe cleaner, or best yet: chase the threads with a 10-32 tap. You will need to get all the crud that impacted in the threads loose. After cleaning, the vent-liner should thread in fully and completely seat into the breech plug’s countersink.
