12 Ga Low Drag AL Magazine Follower

Description

Made in the USA annodized aluminum magazine followers improve the feeding of most any 12 gauge shotgun with a tublar magazine.

While these improve the feed of most any 12 ga shotgun (plastic followers tend to gather grit),  these Low Drag followers are an absolute must have if running any sort of magazine extension as factory original followers tend to hang-up on transitions between the original tube and the extension.   Aluminum extended followers tend to ride over any hiccups and do not abosorb grit into their body.   Also you may want a fresh new extended mag spring, and absolutely need one if you are running a mag tube extension.

Our 12 ga Aluminum follower fits most every 12 gauge shotgun with an accessable magazine spring/follower (most Mossberg M500’s [aka Maverick] have a trapped magazine spring and follower).    Fits most 12 ga shotguns: Benelli’s, Benelli Clones.  Remington, VersaMax, V3, 1100, 11-87, 870.  Mossberg 590, 590A1, 835,  940, 930,  Ithaca M37/M87 etc.

To install, the process will vary alittle depending on the brand of shotgun but in general if it is a 12 gauge and you can get at the magazine spring and follower this will fit:

1.  Follow the owner’s manual to ensure the shotgun is unloaded and on safe, remove the magazine end cap, fore-end, and the barrel from the reciever.
2. Remove any retainer keeping the spring in the magazine tube, then remove the magazine spring and any magazine plug.  Wipe clean and set aside.
3. If the magazine follower will not go in/come out the end of the magazine tube nearest the barrel’s muzzle (typically because the magazine tube is dimpled at the end nearest the muzzle), the magazine tube has to be removed from the action/reciever to install the new aluminum follower.   Some times (like on Remington VersaMax and V3) there is a reciever strengthening  plate that also must be removed as it can bind on the magazine tube. Remove/un-screw the magazine tube from the reciever. Sometimes the magazine tubes are tightly fitted and may have thread locker affixing them to the reciever.  Use caution (and non-maring, non-crushing tools like a strap wrench and padded vice jaws) to unscrew the magazine tube.   Once the original follower has been removed, clean the inside of the magazine tube.  Recommend lubing the inside of the magazine tube with dry PTFE lube.  Place the new Aluminum follower into the magazine tube with the writing facing the loading port and the cup up towards the muzzle
4. Reassamble in the reverse of disassembly

Please note: if you add a magazine tube extension to many modern shotguns, the factory magazine tube may have dimples in it to retain the spring cap.  These dimples must be removed if you want the follower and any shells to pass beyond them.  Typically this is done by peening them out with a lubed mandrel, or somtimes they are drilled out.   Drilled out dimples essentially must run a Low Drag extended AL magazine follower to ride properly over the holes.
