4 shims to change the Drop and Cast of a VersaMax Sportsman

SKU: VmaxStockShimSet Category:

Description

Need to adjust the fit of your VersaMax Sportsman?

The Sportsman model didn’t come with (and isn’t compatible with) the cast and drop adjustments of the other versions.   So we created this shim kit via 3d printing to alter the drop or cast of the buttstock. No more than one shim should be placed between the receiver and the metal plate in the buttstock.

This 4 pack of shims includes:

+060 shim to drop the heal of the standard buttstock just over 1/2 of an inch

+030 shim to drop the heal of the standard buttstock just over 1/4 of an inch

045 Cast shim will throw the cast left or right (in or out… on or off) about 1/4 of an inch

-030 will raise the heel of the standard buttstock just over 1/4 inch

Only use one shim maximum.   Stacking more than one shim will reduce the protrusion of the nubs in the metal plate that lock the buttstock to the receiver.  So with these shims one can only adjust the Sportsman for either drop or cast  (not both).  Drop shims are placed on the metal connector plate with the writing facing the receiver.  The Cast shim is flipped to cast in or out (on or off).

How the Shims Work

  • Cast: Changing the cast (left or right) is done by flipping the 045 shim over to choose either Cast-On or Cast-Off (in or out).
  • Drop: The heel drop is adjusted by placing the desired shim with the numbered side towards the receiver between the receiver and the stock/metal 4 pronged link.

How to Install and Adjust

  1. Preparation: Ensure your shotgun is completely unloaded and safe (per the instructions in the owner’s manual).
  2. Remove the recoil pad with a small Phillips head screw driver (to expose the inside of the buttstock).
  3. Remove the Stock: Use a long 3/16 hex-driver to unscrew the cap head stock bolt  & washers holding the buttstock to the receiver action spring tube.   Slide the stock off the receiver action spring tube.
  4. Configure: Orient the desired shim to the desired drop or cast. Ensure the metal plate and the holes in the plastic shim line up with the holes in the receiver so they seat properly with the receiver.
  5. Reassemble the stock: Slide the stock back over the action spring tube and tighten the stock bolt down firmly, making sure everything aligns,

Reinstall the recoil pad.

The shims for sale here fit the model that doesn’t work with the factory system:
  • Versa Max Sportsman: This budget-friendly workhorse model lacks the premium features of the standard. It does not include compatibility with the Remington system to adjust drop, cast, nor does it have interchangeable comb inserts (its buttstock and 4 pronged interface are different)
These shims are not for the Versa Max shotguns that are compatible with the factory stock adjustment system (the buttstock schematic above is actually not the Sportsman, its metal 4 pronged interface is scooped out and it shows the swappable cheek piece):
    • Versa Max Synthetic / Standard: The flagship model comes fully equipped with a adjustment system for drop, cast, and length-of-pull, alongside adjustable comb inserts.
    • Versa Max Waterfowl / Mossy Oak / Camo: These premium hunting variants retain the premium receiver and stock features of the standard model, meaning they include the stock adjustability.
    • Versa Max Tactical (Competition Tactical): Designed for tactical and 3-gun applications, these also come with the adjustable stock system
