Description
Remington VersaMax Tube – No Dents for Plastic Magazine Spring retainer
This NOS (New Old Stock) tube is useful for those who wish to run a magazine etension, but do not want to press or peen out the magazine tube dimples that retain the stock magazine spring retainer.
This magazine tube will thread into the V3 reciver as well, but the V3 handguard is shorter (or you could say this magazine tube is longer as its for a VersaMax), so some sort of spacer tube would be required between the V3 hand gaurd and magazine cap, or a Versamax Handguard would have to be fitted to a V3.
We recommend you couple our upgraded AL low drag 12 Ga magazine follower and extended 12 magazine spring if you are changing the magazine tube.
If you try to run this with the orginal spring and plastic spring keeper, you’ll have to hold pressure the entire time you are trying to turn it on, you may end up twising the magazine spring, and really should just forget the original spring and dump the spring holder: run a plug instead of the spring keeper (this doesn’t have detents for the spring keeper to engage). In this case a standard 1 round magazine plug won’t comply with federal migratory bird rules (you’d have to make a coustom length plug to reduce the magazine capacity to two rounds).;
To install this tube the shotgun must be put on safe, unloaded, and disassembled (per the owner’s manual), then the plate that envelopes the magazine tube and protects the reciever from the gas pistons removed. Then the action is put in a padded vice and either a couple of sets of very strong hands, or strap wrenches are used to remove the original magazine tube (which may have thread locker on it) is unscrewed (being careful to not mar the magzine tube). Then this mag tube can be screwed in and made had tight. Assembly is the reverse from here (we do not recommend thread locker if you want to swap mag tubes back and forth).
We recommend professional gunsmith installation.
